Coronet’s first model 18 Hardtop Sedan was designed by the American Richard C. Cole and appeared on the market in 1956. Cole also suggested the name Coronet. It was the only model the first year, but it was available in several different colour combinations.
The first three years the model was called 18 Hardtop Sedan but in 1959 the name was shortened to 18 Sedan. In 1959 18 Sedan was available in at least two versions with different interior designs. From 1960 18 Sedan as well as other 18 ft and larger models were available with the new Volvo Penta Aquamatic drive. In 1961 18 Sedan was produced in four versions, with Aquamatic or for outboard installation and with two or four sleeping berths. The weight of the outboard version was 590 kg. With Aquamatic the weight was 950 kg. In 1963 the hardtop and cabin design was renewed for all Coronet models including 18 Sedan. The new hardtop designed by Hans Bruun Bertelsen has a more flat roof extended forwards above the windshield. The picture above shows the 1963 year model. The last year of production for 18 Sedan was 1964.
