Worn Circulation Pump AQ170

Hi,

I have a Coronet 21 DC with a single AQ170 engine. The engine made a strange noise and when I checked it out I noticed that it was coming from the circulation pomp. I can move it, so it seems that the bearings in the pump are worn out. I checked on the internet and it seems that a whole circulation pump costs around 750 euro's. That is quite a lot comparing to a normal B30 pump which is around 50 euro's (Yes, I am Dutch....). I have not pulled the pump apart yet but does anyone know a simple and cheep way to replace the bearings or the whole pump?

I welcome any advise!

Thans,

Hi Michiel,

A long time ago I had the same problem. I replaced it with a regular B30 pump in cast aluminium. It work fine for many years without any problem. Lifecycle might depend on if you are using sweetwater system or directly from the ocean.
It is probably possible to take the old one apart and replace the bearings and the sealing, but I do not think it is worth it. After all you can replace the B30 type many times for a cost of the original pump.

Best regards,

Thomas,

It seems that the car version is slightly different, e.g. how did you solve that? Mine has three connection points instead of two:

1) boat version (similar as mine)

2) car version

Michiel,

The third hole is for having coolant to a heater, warming tap water or similar. In my case I just plugged that with a special metalwasher that was pressed into the hole. These washers can be bought at certain engine repair shops etc. In some cases you even can buy a kit to the actual pump. If you are not to plug it you have to make your hose or pipe fit with the new position.
