24 family - windows sealing

Does anybody know how to remove the aluminiumframe around the windows to seal them new? I have a massive waterincoming through the screens, so have to seal them new, but I have no idea how to do it through the aluminium.

Please answer in german or english!

I made a complete overhaul of the window frames and mahogny sheets on my OF32 and wrote a report. Unfortunately it is written in swedish. But there are some photos. It can be found in How I did it. Byte av mahognypanel......................

The Family and the OF do not have the same type of window fittings as far as I know. The Familys' windows are just glued from the outside and can be pushed out once the Mahogany lipping on the inside has been removed.
I am doing this very restauration project at the moment in my 26 Family Fly and will cover the work in an article under "How I did it" later on.
Here is a picture of how I pushed the windows out using a hydraulic jack.

Hi Johann, just had the same challenge a few month ago on a 27SF, the alu frames where almost impossible to get out, frustrating..

Anyways, tried a lot of different approaches, some of which found here, inc. applying a constant pressure via a hydraulic jack while heating the frame. This worked for me and if the frames a glued in the same way you can give it a try;

You need two sharp putty knives, a plastic hammer and some small wedges. Work one of the putty knives in between the alu-frame and the hull, the second putty knife goes in the same place, then carefully work one of the wedges in between the two putty knives - after that t's just a matter of carefully working you way around the frame using the wedges, allow a little time for the glue to let go. Surprisingly easy and no scratches left on the frames and hull. Shouldn't take more than 15 minutes a piece.

Good luck. BR Morten

Here is an article of how I did this job. It is in Swedish, but I guess your web browser is able to translate if needed:
