Hi, I am from Ontario Canada, and I am looking at buying a 33' Silver Star, twin turbo diesel Volvo inboard/outboards. I have been searching the web, but have not been able to find much information about this model, it does not seem to have been one of Coronet's most popular models . Does anyboby know if this is a decent boat? Any information would be extremely helpful, and greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Steve, I belive the 33SS is rather rare, and none are registred with this club. However, another member has found a 33SS for sale on the web, and perhaps you could benefit from calling the seller to get a little information. Please see attached link.

Hi Mr. Kruse, thank you for your response. The attached link does not yield anything at this end. The owner says this boat was built in 1986. The hull identification is different from the north american method, so I am unsure that this is correct. Would this boat have a similar hull to other Coronet's in a similar length? I am satisfied that the drive train is sound. Did Coronet build any boats that did not handle well in a one to two meter choppy sea? We are going for a sea trial this weekend, but it will only be for a few minutes, and I can not count on rough weather , even though it has been rough all summer. It looks like a seaworthy boat, but there is nothing here to compare it to. Do you have any idea how many of the 33SS were built, is there a reason why there is not more of them?

Steve, if you go to boatshop24.com and search for Coronet in the upper right corner you will find a Coronet 32 Open (same boat as yours) in the list. I suggest you contact the Italian dealership to get a little info on the other boat to allow for comparison. 33SSs were built from '86 and I believe they are very rare. I don't know how many were built during the late eighties but this was during the time where Coronet production faced difficult times and production wise more or less faded away. I will refer to other members of CYC to fill you in on the details of Coronet history - see section "History" at this site. When it comes to the choppy sea, I believe the boats work great. However, you will get a hull design that is at least close to 20 years old, and will obviously loose some years of product development. I would recommend that you focus on the comfort when going directly against the waves during your trial, since that is the direction most frequently criticized (for being a little well bumpy).

Steve !
I'm not 100% confident, but I believe the 33 SIlver Star has the same hull design as the 32'' coronet models (Oceanfarer/ Deepsea/Sedan), and hence should handle the sea in a similar way as these models. The oceanfarer was produced in large numbers, so you may want to look for tests of this model done by boating magazines in europe.

Hello Steve,
The Coronet Silver Star uses an Oceanfarer / Deepsea 32 hull with a different superstructure, the model was designed and built by Coronet International from the mid 80's.
The reason why there are few Silver Stars around is due to the company changing owners several times during the late 70's and through the 80's infact there are not many Coronets from the 80's altogether. Coronet International scaled down production and concentrated on building bespoke boats; the Silver Star is probably the most popular from that period, last year I was aware of 3 being for sale, a 1986 and 1988 in Italy and a 1986 in Denmark.
The hull identification will start with the year of manufacture and this should be on a golden colour plate just below the stern navigation light. My 1985 Oceanfarer Wing begins 8532.... which is 85 for the year and 32 for the length I presume.
Hope this is of help ??
