!
Hi all
I'm from Guernsey in the Channel Islands and have started to restore a 65/66 Coronet 24 Cabin (de luxe).
I'll have a lot of questions that I hope you guys can help with...so for a start :)
1. How do I tell if mine is a de luxe or a standard 24 Cabin?
2. Is it possible to restore the original 64/67 deck grip surface?
3. Is it possible to buy the black diamond patterned material that's fitting in the cockpit?
I have previously restored various air-cooled VWs and am currently working on a Zundapp Bella so I thought I'd restore a Coronet this time. I chose a Coronet because my father had a 27 Seafarer II when I was a boy and I was struck by it's quality.
I hope to make her as original as possible. I'll keep you guys up todate on the progress of the restoration.
Keep smilin
Kip

Hi Chris,
Congrats with getting a Coronet!
On questions 1 & 2 I have no answer for you, but for 3. I can tell you that at least here in Norway it's possible to buy vinyl-based material with the diamond pattern in many different colours, including black. It's available in metre lengths by 1,4m wide, and the cost here is about NOK 250 per metre. I have no idea of the brand or name, but as far as I remember it was made in the US. I would imagine it should be generally available Europe-wide with upholstery repair- and similar shops. Good luck with your project!

Thanks for the reply, that's good news. Guernsey is very small and I can't get it here but I may have more luck in England or France.
I've removed all the glass now. Does anyone know if it's still possible to buy the following: Pulpits, Masts, Cleats & Front fairleads?
Thanks again
Kip

Cleats you can buy through this club. I think the club also is planning to produce front fairleads. Pulpit you have to make yourself through a sheet metal worker like I did. I've also let a a interior carpenter made a new mast to my 31 ac for approx. 300 euro. If window seals is what I think it is you can also get that through this club or at least helped by finding a supplier.

Hello Chris.
The easiest way to decide if you have a 24 de Luxe or a 24 Cabin is to look at the woodenrail in around the cockpit. The de Luxe had it all the way round but the Cabin had not in the aft, only on the sides. Other differences between the two models are only regarding the interior such as outside icebox on de luxe instead of inside icebox on Cabin. Cabin de Luxe came on market 1964 and the Cabin in 1968. The Coronetfactory wrote 1968 about their new model 24 Cabin:"A three sleeper version of the successful Cabin de Luxe....

Thank you for the info
So could you still buy a de luxe after 1968 or did the Cabin model replace the Cabin de Luxe?

Chris

As always with Coronet there are difficult to be completely sure about anything regarding productionstarts and ends for different models. But I´m pretty sure that Cabin replaced de Luxe in 1968. Maybe you could specialorder a de Luxe after 1968. One thing for sure is that you under 1968 could choose between the old Coronet blue-green color and the new color for that year, Coronet grey for all Coronetmodels. After 1968 all Coronets became grey with no oppurtunity to choose....

Thanks for the information :)
I've seen that the club sells the wood for the cleats...do you know if they sell complete cleats. Can anyone confirm if the club is going to be reproducing the fairleads?
I've got a photo of some parts that are thought to be available from the club which I found on an english coronet site. It shows fairleads, pulpit parts and nav light lenses amongst other things.
Are all the parts now available through the club detailed in the Web Shop or are there more?
Thanks
Chris
